Hospitals in the Administrative District Freudenstadt are Implementing CHILI PACS
Heidelberg, January 8, 2010. The Krankenhäuser Landkreis Freudenstadt gGmbH (charitable limited company), an association of the Krankenhaus Freudenstadt and the Hospital zum Heiligen Geist Horb, carry on digitalization and will implement the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) by CHILI. "With this step we intend to optimize and speed up the workflow as well as improve the image distribution, especially in the operating theatres, to the attached ambulatory health care centre/medical centre and to external partners", Dr. Thomas Ammon, chief consultant and head of project in the Krankenhaus Freudenstadt, summarizes the project goals. In addition the hospitals expect cost reductions from the abandonment of conventional archiving and film processing. Altogether about 16,000 inpatients and approximately 40,000 ambulant patients are treated annually in the 525 beds of the two institutions
"In addition to good functionality and high performance the PACS had to integrate into the existing IT environment, especially into the present KIS/RIS solution by Agfa", Dr. Ammon names the essential demands for choosing the system. "That is exactly where CHILI can prove experience. In addition the company is very flexible when it comes to the implementation of individual customers' wishes. We are convinced to have found the right partner."
Dr. Uwe Engelmann, COO and associate of CHILI, backs this up: "Both houses are technically highly competent and thus can contribute important components of the system themselves. This is especially helpful in a complex project with a large portion of teleradiology: The PACS is distributed to both locations, the radiologists will also access the pictures from home. The teleradiological connection of other houses has already been put into effect with a CHILI teleradiology gateway and is being extended."
The short-term archive is implemented with an in-house storage area network (SAN), the audit-proof long-term archiving with the Silent Cube concept by Fast LTA. Here the data is mirrored at two different locations. Conventional radiographic films are scanned in the hospitals and integrated by them, as well as the patient CDs, according to the IHE profile IRWF into the PACS. Self created CDs comply with the specifications of the German Radiological Society (Deutsche Röntgengesellschaft) and the OFFIS Institute.
