The Marienhospital in Bottrop puts its confidence in the CHILI system — introduction of PACS results in significant time savings
Heidelberg, April 19, 2010. The Marienhospital in Bottrop has said farewell to analog imaging and its in-house X-ray image processing has gone completely digital. The process is now supported by the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) produced by the Heidelberg IT company CHILI GmbH. This general hospital, which has 358 beds, treats approximately 15,000 in-patients and 45,000 out-patients a year.
"What was most important to us when we chose our PACS provider was the seamless integration of the modalities", says the hospital's CEO, Dr. Ulrike Ellebrecht, identifying this as one of the decisive criteria in favor of the Chili system. To achieve this it was necessary to include a CT, an MRT, two X-ray machines, an ultrasound scanner, a mammography machine, two Bucky stands and two mobile X-ray machines from a variety of different manufacturers. "And on top of this, we needed to make sure that the communication between the existing hospital information system from MCS AG worked, too."
In addition to the connection of the modalities the project also presented other challenges. First of all, the hospital needed to invest heavily in the central server as well as hard disk drive storage system and the associated workstations with diagnostic monitors. Over and above that, the servers were also virtualized. "Thanks to the excellent and flexible cooperation between all those involved we were able to overcome all of the challenges we faced", Dr. Uwe Engelmann, COO and partner of CHILI, said of the partnership and cooperation with the customer.
"Our initial experiences with the CHILI PACS have been positive in every respect", Dr. Feldmann summed up in his initial conclusion, expressing his satisfaction. "Performing about 50,000 examinations each year, the digital image processing, communication and archival will save us valuable time. For instance, it will no longer be necessary to look for and fetch X-ray films, as they are now available on the PACS straight after the examination has been performed and can be viewed on any monitor in the hospital. On top of this, communication between clinicians and referring physicians has become much simpler, quicker and more efficient."
